Element: Determine job requirements
  • Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs)
  • Comply with work health and safety (WHS) requirements at all times
  • Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) in accordance with SOPs
  • Identify job requirements from specifications, drawings, job sheets or work instructions
       
Element: Prepare materials for MMAW
  • Prepare materials to achieve the required weld requirements
  • Assemble/align materials to specification, where required
       
Element: Select, assemble and set up welding equipment and consumables
  • Identify and select welding equipment and electrodes, accessories and consumables appropriate to the material
  • Assemble and set up alternating current (AC) or direct current (DC) welding equipment
       
Element: Minimise and rectify distortion
  • Apply appropriate distortion prevention measures
  • Rectify any distortion using appropriate techniques
       
Element: Weld to job specification using MMAW
  • Ensure weld deposit is to specifications
  • Clean joints to specifications
       
Element: Ensure weld conformance
  • Inspect weld joints visually for conformance to specifications
  • Rectify any weld defects with minimum loss of sound metal using correct techniques and tools
  • Complete weld records in accordance with SOPs

Assessment Tasks
